A refreshing summer treat that combines two fan-favorite beverages into one frozen delight! Sweet tea julep meets margarita in a popsicle form — perfect for cooling off at your summer fiesta.

Origin Summer Fiesta Sweet Tea Julep and Margarita Pops

This fun and tropical twist takes inspiration from Southern sweet tea juleps and classic margaritas, two iconic drinks with roots in American and Mexican traditions. The popsicle version is an inventive way to enjoy both flavors on a hot summer day.

What I Love About This Recipe

It’s a playful fusion of two amazing drinks! The sweetness of the tea, combined with the tanginess of lime and the brightness of mint, makes each pop a burst of summer. It’s an instant hit at summer parties or as a chill treat when you’re lounging by the pool.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed sweet tea (cooled)

  • 1 tbsp fresh mint leaves, chopped

  • 1–2 tbsp honey or sugar (adjust to sweetness)

  • ½ tsp lime juice

  • 1 cup lime juice (freshly squeezed)

  • ½ cup orange juice

  • 1–2 tbsp agave syrup or sugar (adjust to sweetness)

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 tbsp fresh mint leaves (optional for garnish)

Directions

  • In a bowl, mix cooled sweet tea with honey or sugar, lime juice, and fresh mint. Stir well until sweetener is dissolved.
  • For the Margarita Layer:
  • In a separate bowl, combine lime juice, orange juice, water, and agave syrup. Stir to combine.
  • Pour the sweet tea julep mixture into popsicle molds, filling halfway. Freeze for 2–3 hours until firm.
  • Once the sweet tea layer is frozen, pour the margarita mixture over the top to fill the molds. Insert sticks and freeze for another 4–6 hours, or until completely frozen.
  • To release the popsicles, run warm water over the outside of the mold for a few seconds.
  • Serve chilled and garnish with a sprig of mint if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness of both layers to your taste. You can add more sugar or agave for extra sweetness or cut back if you prefer a more tart flavor.
  • For an adult version, add a splash of tequila or bourbon to the margarita layer before freezing.
  • These popsicles can be made in advance and stored in the freezer for a week or more.

Homemade fruit popsicles are a natural, healthy, and delicious way to cool off during hot days. They are made with fresh fruits, natural sweeteners, and no artificial flavors, making them a guilt-free indulgence for kids and adults alike.

Origin of the Recipe

Popsicles date back to 1905 when an 11-year-old boy named Frank Epperson accidentally left a cup of soda with a stirring stick outside overnight. The next morning, he discovered a frozen treat—what we now call a popsicle! Over the years, different cultures have adapted this concept using fresh fruit purees and juices to create a healthier version.
