A flavorful and healthy meal, the Teriyaki Salmon Bowl features tender, glazed salmon served over a bed of rice with fresh vegetables. This dish is perfect for a balanced weeknight dinner or meal prep.

Origin Teriyaki Salmon Bowl

Teriyaki is a classic Japanese cooking technique where proteins like fish or meat are grilled or broiled with a sweet and savory glaze. The word “teriyaki” comes from “teri” (shine) and “yaki” (grill). The dish has become popular worldwide, with variations including different proteins and grain bowls.

What I Love About This Recipe

This dish is the perfect combination of sweet, savory, and umami flavors. The homemade teriyaki sauce gives the salmon a rich, caramelized glaze that pairs beautifully with fluffy rice and crisp vegetables. It’s an easy, wholesome meal that’s also visually appealing with vibrant colors and textures. Plus, it’s great for meal prepping!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked jasmine rice or brown rice

  • ½ cup steamed broccoli

  • ½ cup shredded carrots

  • ½ cup cucumber slices

  • ¼ avocado, sliced

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

  • 1 green onion, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or mayo (optional)

Directions

  • Prepare the teriyaki sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, mirin, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic. If using cornstarch, dissolve it in 1 teaspoon of water and add it to the sauce.
  • Cook the salmon: Heat a pan over medium heat. Add a little oil, place the salmon fillets skin-side down, and cook for 3-4 minutes. Flip and pour the teriyaki sauce over the salmon. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens and the salmon is fully cooked.
  • Assemble the bowl: Place cooked rice in a bowl. Arrange steamed broccoli, shredded carrots, cucumber slices, and avocado around the rice.
  • Top with salmon: Place the teriyaki-glazed salmon over the rice and drizzle any remaining sauce over the bowl.
  • Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and a drizzle of sriracha or mayo if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey to the teriyaki sauce.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
