1.5 cups basmati or long-grain rice, rinsed
1 large onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
1.5 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp paprika or mild chili powder
2 cups chicken broth or water
3 tbsp cooking oil or ghee
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish
Optional: 1 cup frozen peas or chopped vegetables
Directions
- Sauté aromatics: Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft and translucent. Add garlic and ginger, cooking 1 minute until fragrant.
