Sweet and tart and refreshing, this watermelon limeade recipe pairs beautifully with sunshine, laughter, and water of any kind – be it the sea, a pool, or a sprinkler.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups de-seeded watermelon (cubed – should be about 2 cups after it is pureed)

  • ¾ cup lime juice

  • 2 tbsp raw honey (or more to taste)

  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional)

  • Lime slices and watermelon wedges for garnish (optional)

Directions

  • In two batches, pulse the watermelon cubes in a blender just until it looks like a chunky sauce, about 10 to 12 short pulses. Transfer pulp to a colander lined with cheesecloth set over a large pot, stirring occasionally until most of the liquid has dripped through. Transfer 3 1/2 cups of liquid to a large pitcher and reserve remainder for another use.
  • Add lime juice and agave nectar to pitcher and stir to combine. Refrigerate until completely cool. Serve in ice-filled glasses, garnished with lime zest or rings if desired.

Notes

  • Select a ripe and sweet watermelon for the best flavor. Look for a watermelon that feels heavy for its size, has a deep color, and has a hollow sound when tapped.
  • The sweetness of watermelons can vary, so it’s important to taste the watermelon juice before adding sugar. If the watermelon is already very sweet, you may not need to add much or any additional sugar. Adjust the sweetness according to your personal preference.
