Origin of Cookies and Cream Desserts

Ingredients

  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal

  • 20 Oreo cookies, crushed (some chunks, some crumbs)

  • 4 cups mini marshmallows (or 1 bag, 10 oz)

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

  • ½ cup white chocolate chips (optional, for extra creaminess)

Directions

  • Prepare the pan: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or line with parchment paper.
  • Crush the Oreos: Place the Oreos in a ziplock bag and crush them into a mix of fine crumbs and larger chunks.
  • Melt the butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until fully melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  • Mix in the cereal: Remove from heat and quickly fold in the Rice Krispies and crushed Oreos, stirring gently to coat everything evenly.
  • Press into the pan: Transfer the mixture into the prepared dish and press down lightly with a buttered spatula (don’t compact too much, or they’ll be hard).
  • Add white chocolate (optional): Sprinkle white chocolate chips on top while the treats are still warm, pressing them in slightly.
  • Cool and cut: Let the treats set for 30-45 minutes, then slice into squares and enjoy!

Notes

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
