The simple recipe consists of preparing soft, spongy, milky balls soaked in rose-scented sugar syrup. I have prepared this recipe with ready-made Gulab Jamun. This is an easy and quick way to make You can also view the traditional method of preparing jamun here.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of full-fat milk powder

  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

  • 3 tablespoons of ghee (clarified butter)

  • 3-4 tablespoons of milk

  • A pinch of cardamom powder

  • Chopped nuts (optional)

  • For Sugar Syrup:
  • 2 cups of sugar

  • 2 cups of water

  • A few saffron strands

  • 1/2 teaspoon of rose water (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder

Directions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking soda. Mix well.
  • Add the ghee and cardamom powder to the dry ingredients. Mix gently until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Gradually add the milk, a little at a time, and knead the mixture into a soft dough. Ensure it’s smooth and free of lumps. If the dough appears too dry, add a little more milk.
  • Allow the dough to rest for 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup by combining sugar, water, saffron, and cardamom powder in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. The syrup should have a slightly sticky consistency. If adding rose water, do so at the end and set the syrup aside.
  • After resting, knead the dough again for a few minutes, then divide it into small, smooth balls. Ensure there are no cracks on the surface of the balls.
  • Heat ghee or oil in a deep pan over medium-low heat. Gently slide the prepared dough balls into the heated ghee and fry them, turning frequently, until they turn a deep golden brown. Keep in mind that the temperature of the ghee/oil should be moderate to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
  • Once fried, remove the Gulab Jamuns from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil. Let them sit for a few minutes.
  • Reheat the sugar syrup. Then, gently add the fried Gulab Jamuns to the syrup, allowing them to soak for at least 1-2 hours to ensure they absorb the sweetness and flavor.
  • Optionally, garnish the Gulab Jamuns with chopped nuts before serving.
    Now you’re all set to delight your family and friends with your homemade Gulab Jamuns! Enjoy these syrup-soaked delights either warm or at room temperature for an authentic Indian dessert experience. 🍮✨
