Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 cup tomato sauce or sloppy joe sauce

  • 2 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp mustard

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 loaf French bread, halved lengthwise

  • 4 tbsp butter, softened

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic. Spread garlic butter over the cut sides of the French bread.
  • Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes to slightly crisp.
  • Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the toasted bread halves.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top.
  • Bake for another 10–12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley, slice, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle some red chili flakes over the cheese before baking.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add jalapeños or pickles for a tangy twist.
